The Chattooga County Young Farmers chapter has been recognized as the North Region Outstanding Chapter, a significant achievement celebrated last week at the North Region Caucus held in Stephens County. The prestigious award acknowledges the chapter’s dedication to agricultural education, leadership, and community involvement.

Lauren Jarrett, Director of the Chattooga Young Farmers, expressed immense pride in her members. “A huge thank you to our incredible members who pour their hearts into this organization and the agriculture industry every day,” Jarrett stated. “This recognition wouldn’t be possible without each of you! We also want to thank our crew that traveled to caucus tonight to represent our chapter!”

The Georgia Young Farmers organization is a vital component of Georgia’s Agricultural Education program, operating as a statewide adult education initiative designed to support and educate individuals involved in farming. Functioning as the adult counterpart to the well-known FFA (Future Farmers of America), the program offers a comprehensive suite of resources including educational seminars, practical technical assistance, and robust leadership development opportunities.

The core mission of the Georgia Young Farmers program revolves around several key pillars:

  • Education and Training: Providing structured classes on emerging farming techniques, essential risk management strategies, efficient water management practices, and crucial legislative issues impacting the agricultural sector.
  • Technical Assistance: Delivering hands-on, on-site support to help farmers refine and enhance their operational practices.
  • Leadership Development: Cultivating knowledgeable and capable agricultural leaders through targeted workshops and conferences.
  • Advocacy: Working to deepen public understanding of agriculture and championing the industry’s interests through active legislative engagement.
Community Involvement: Nurturing a strong sense of community through initiatives like award recognitions, scholarship programs, and statewide conventions.

Membership in the Georgia Young Farmers is open to all individuals who are passionate about and supportive of agriculture and agricultural education. With over 5,900 members spread across 55 county associations, the Georgia Young Farmers program has proudly maintained its status as the largest young farmer membership in the nation for an impressive 33 consecutive years. The Chattooga County chapter’s recent accolade is a testament to their commitment to upholding this rich tradition of excellence.
