Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia are advised to enjoy the outdoors, as the region settles in for nearly a week of remarkably unseasonal warmth characterized by dry skies and daytime temperatures soaring 8 to 14 degrees above the average for mid-November.
A dominant surface high-pressure system is locking in place, ushering in conditions typical of early autumn rather than the cusp of winter.
According to a forecast issued this morning, the steady warming trend that began earlier in the week is set to peak this weekend and continue well into the start of next week, with persistent dry conditions expected to dominate the region until at least Monday.
Short-Term Forecast: Clear Skies and Low 70s
The immediate forecast for today (Thursday) and Friday highlights the continued dominance of high pressure, reinforced by a reinforcing surface high moving across the Southeast.
Temperatures will see a quick climb toward unseasonal highs. Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 60s to low 70s both today and tomorrow. Tomorrow, Friday, is expected to be slightly warmer than today across most locations.
“Dry air and clear skies will characterize the short-term period,” the forecast noted. While daytime highs are mild, clear overnight conditions will still allow temperatures to drop, with lows tonight falling into the upper 30s and low 40s.
Extended Warmth Through Mid-Week
The most dramatic phase of the warm spell will commence Friday night and extend through next Wednesday, driven by a building midlevel ridge across the Plains and a steady northward flow of air.
Temperatures between Saturday and next Wednesday are forecast to remain consistently mild, with highs expected to land firmly in the 70s. Mountain areas may see temperatures slightly cooler, peaking in the mid-to-upper 60s.
Overnight lows will also be noticeably elevated, generally holding in the 40s and 50s, ensuring comfortable evening conditions throughout the area.
This extended period of elevated temperatures means residents will experience a forecast that is significantly warmer than normal for the middle of November.
Rain Chances Remain Low and Uncertain
While the warm and dry pattern will prevail through the weekend, forecasters are tracking an approaching system that could bring a change in conditions by early next week.
A series of weak disturbances and surface fronts are expected to move through the region between Tuesday and Friday. However, significant uncertainty remains regarding the extent and timing of any substantial rainfall.
Initial rain chances are currently low, ranging from 15% to 30% between Tuesday and Thursday. Forecasters stress that ensemble inconsistencies regarding the precise timing and accumulation of precipitation remain high, meaning the region could easily continue its dry spell into the following weekend.
In summary, Northwest Georgia can expect highly favorable weather for outdoor activities over the next five to seven days, defined by sunny skies and temperatures averaging 8 to 14 degrees above the November norm.
