Bruce Peace                                                               Michael Simpson

A targeted, two-month investigation by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office has culminated in the arrests of two longtime drug offenders, one from Chattooga County, on charges of trafficking methamphetamine in the Calhoun area.

Bruce Sterling Peace, 63, of Trion, and Michael Simpson, 66, of Calhoun, were apprehended in separate incidents in late October and early November after investigators tracked drug activity originating near a private residence on Landon Court.

According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, the probe commenced in September following initial reports of suspicious drug activity.

The first arrest occurred on October 23, when deputies intercepted Bruce Sterling Peace on Dews Pond Road. Investigators reported finding Peace in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Gordon County Jail.

The investigation continued and, two weeks later on November 6, deputies located and arrested Peace’s co-defendant, Michael Simpson. Simpson was apprehended at a convenience store in the Scottsville community, where officials also found him carrying a large quantity of methamphetamine. He was subsequently booked into the county jail.

Both men face felony charges for trafficking methamphetamine and related offenses and currently remain in custody awaiting their initial court appearances.

History of Repeat Offenses

Authorities noted that both defendants have extensive criminal histories involving drug-related crimes, underscoring the serious nature of the arrests.

Peace, a resident of Chattooga County, is currently serving a term of probation stemming from a 2002 conviction for manufacturing methamphetamine, which resulted in a 40-year sentence.

Simpson’s record is similarly lengthy, reportedly dating back to 1989 and including nine prior arrests or convictions for various drug offenses.

While the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the seizure of narcotics and the successful closure of this phase of the investigation, authorities have not yet released the specifics regarding the total amount of methamphetamine confiscated, nor have they commented on whether additional suspects are being sought in connection with the trafficking operation. Court dates for both Peace and Simpson have yet to be scheduled.
