A traffic stop initiated over illegal window tint in Chattooga County on November 4, 2025, quickly escalated into a major drug bust after a Deputy discovered both methamphetamine and fentanyl in a passenger’s wallet.
Kristian Potter Hope Thomas, 26, of Chattooga County, was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Schedule II Drug(s) following the incident, according to a report released by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
The incident began when a Chattooga County Deputy observed a dark-colored Ford Focus near Old Highway 27 and Stoleman Road displaying what appeared to be illegal window tint. A deputy initiated a stop at 117 Stoleman Road.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the arresting officer noted a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the car. The driver, identified as Travis Sweet, and the passenger, Ms. Thomas, both admitted to the deputy that they occasionally smoked marijuana inside the vehicle.
Following the admission, the deputy advised the occupants that a search of the vehicle would be conducted.
During the search, the deputy retrieved Ms. Thomas’s wallet. Inside the wallet, the officer located a small amount of white powdery substance contained within a folded one-dollar bill.
Ms. Thomas was immediately read her Miranda Rights. When questioned about the substance, she reportedly claimed she did not know anything about it.
Assisting deputies and Trion Police, arrived on the scene with test kits. The substance field-tested positive for both Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. Fentanyl is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance.
Ms. Thomas was subsequently detained, handcuffed, and transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident. The driver, Travis Sweet, was not listed among those arrested in the report narrative.
