Chattooga County Probate Judge Jon Payne, who also serves as the Chattooga County Election Superintendent, told AM 1180 that around 100 Chattooga County voters will be voting in a different polling place this year.

Payne said that the move was mandated by the state and that local officials were working to get all that will be affected notified.  In the past polling places were based on historical "Militia Districts" – a practice that had been in place since colonial days.  Former Secretary of State Karen Handel issued a ruling in 2008 that by this year (2012) precincts would be based on geograhphical boundries instead of the antiquated militia districts.

Due to the changes some Chattooga County voters will find themselves voting in a different precinct than they have in the past.  The Chattooga County Registrars Office can answer any questions you may have if you receive a notification that your polling place has changed.

Judge Payne also said that voters can vote early or pick up an absentee ballott at the registrars office which is located next to the courthouse on Commerce Street in Summerville.
