Summerville Police say a man came to them for assistance after discovering that the person who purchased his vehicle refused to return his identification documents unless he paid money.

According to the police report, the man told Summerville Police he had recently sold his vehicle, but accidentally left several important identification documents inside it. After realizing the mistake, he contacted the buyer — identified in the report as John Allen — through Facebook in an attempt to retrieve the items.

The victim told police that the buyer demanded $200 in exchange for giving his documents back. The buyer also claimed to live in Alabama but did not provide a specific city.

The list of missing items includes multiple forms of identification, including a Social Security card, U.S. Employment Authorization card, several passports, a Venezuelan ID, and documentation from various immigration agencies.

Summerville Police documented the incident and advised the man on the next steps to take regarding his personal identification.
