The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show when it returns early next year to Rome’s Russell Regional Airport on April 3–4, 2026. The announcement marks an exciting return for one of the nation’s most elite aerial demonstration teams.

The Thunderbirds, based at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, have been thrilling audiences since 1953 with high-speed precision maneuvers, formation flying, and solo demonstrations. Their appearance will bring military aviation back to Northwest Georgia after the 2025 event was impacted by the federal government shutdown.

Last October’s air show was originally scheduled to feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, but military participation was halted during the shutdown. Despite the setback, JLC AirShow Management, headquartered in Rome, pressed forward with a modified event featuring civilian performers. The weekend included a new Friday lineup with a country concert, twilight flights, a lighted drone show, and fireworks.

“We’re proud to have pulled that off without military acts, and now we’ve got our sights set on a bigger, better event with the Thunderbirds,” said John Cowman, president of JLC AirShow Management.

Cowman said additional performers—both military and civilian—will be announced in the coming months.
