A report released Tuesday by the Summerville Police Department reveals new details about a power outage that forced several residents from their homes earlier this month. The incident happened on November 20, 2025, when a large tree fell onto power lines along Hill Street, pulling electric meters and service equipment away from two homes.
The downed tree caused a significant outage in the area, leaving multiple residents without electricity. According to the report, two affected homes—owned by the Summerville Housing Authority—sustained substantial damage when the electrical service components were torn from the structures. With the power out and repairs needed, residents living at 165 and 167 Hill Street were unable to remain in their homes and had to find alternative accommodations for the night.
Utility and emergency crews stayed on scene into the night as service providers worked to secure the damaged equipment and begin repairs. The cost of the damage was still undetermined at the time of the report’s release. Officials confirmed the outage was caused solely by the fallen tree and not by any suspicious activity.
