Bells are ringing across shopping centers this holiday season as the Salvation Army of Rome, GA launches its annual Red Kettle campaign, a vital fundraiser that supports services in Chattooga, Floyd, and several other Northwest Georgia counties.
Major Hank Harwell, Corps Officer, says the organization is actively seeking additional volunteers to serve as bell ringers, as well as donors to contribute cash and change. Each kettle is also equipped with a QR code for convenient online giving.
Funds raised during the Red Kettle campaign help cover operating expenses and critical programs throughout the coming year. Harwell notes that while bell ringers may prefer warmer weather, donors typically give more generously when the temperature drops. He also says Christmas Eve—the campaign’s final day—is traditionally the most generous giving day of the season.
In addition to kettle donations, Harwell encourages residents to support ongoing canned food drives held at local schools, churches, and businesses. He expressed appreciation for the community’s “overwhelming support” of the Angel Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts to children, seniors, and individuals with special needs.
