History was made on Saturday, December 13th, as both the Summerville 8U and 12U youth football teams won GRPA State Championships, bringing home the city’s first state football titles since 1973 — and two of them in the same day.

The 12U Summerville Indians, led by coaches Terry Money, Larry Wilson, Baylor Wilson and Bo Chamlee, capped a storybook run with a dominant performance in the state final. For head coach Terry Money, the victory was especially sweet: he finished the season 14–0, securing a perfect season and his first-ever football state championship.

Money, who has over 200 career wins, is known just as much for his impact off the field as on it. Over the years he has served as a mentor to thousands of young athletes in Summerville, helping shape generations of players who have come through the recreation department.

On the field, two standout athletes powered Summerville’s charge to the top.

  • #12 Ty Covington (12U)

  • #11 Mai’syon Sims (8U)

Both have been named 2025 Players of the Year in football after leading their teams to Georgia Recreation and Park Association state titles. All season long, Covington and Sims were offensive machines, racking up big gains on the ground. Defensively, they were just as impressive, stuffing opponents and disrupting offensive game plans week after week.

To honor the champions, the community will hold a special welcome home celebration this afternoon (Sunday) at 2 PM. The Summerville Police Department and Summerville Fire Department will escort the State Championship teams through town, beginning near Ingles Supermarket on Highway 114 and ending at the Summerville Recreation Department on Highway 100.

The 8U and 12U Summerville Indians now return home as double GRPA State Champions for 2025, carrying with them a legacy that will be remembered in Summerville for decades to come.
