Habitat for Humanity–Coosa Valley is inviting Chattooga County residents to learn more about its homeownership program, which helps partner families achieve safe, decent, and affordable housing while reflecting God’s love through service and community support.

Serving Chattooga, Floyd, and Polk Counties since 1984, Habitat for Humanity–Coosa Valley says it has helped build or rehab more than 165 homes. Qualifying families purchase homes through a zero-interest loan extended by Habitat, and participants also complete 250–300 hours of “sweat equity” by working on their home and supporting Habitat efforts—an approach the organization describes as “a hand up, not a handout.”

In Chattooga County, two informational sessions are scheduled in Summerville for anyone interested in applying or learning more:

  • Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.Chattooga County Civic Center, 44 Hwy 48, Summerville

  • Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.Community Resource Center of Chattooga, 50 Eleanor Ave., Summerville

Habitat’s application submission period runs Jan. 5 through Feb. 27, 2026, and the organization encourages potential applicants to attend an informational session to understand program requirements and the path to homeownership.
