If you’re looking for a family-friendly way to welcome the New Year, James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park is inviting the community to step outside for a special New Year’s Eve Hike—tomorrow night, Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Park officials say participants will meet rangers at the park office for an easy 1.2-mile hike around the lower lake, scheduled from 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The event is designed to help visitors celebrate the countdown to 2026 in a quieter, nature-focused setting—away from loud crowds and fireworks.

After the hike, the group will gather around a campfire to enjoy sparkling grape juice, hot cocoa, and apple cider, and then count down together as the New Year arrives.

The cost to participate is $3 per person, and the park notes a $5 ParkPass is required. Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a flashlight for the nighttime walk.
