One of three suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery has been returned to Floyd County to face charges, according to law enforcement officials.
The robbery occurred Saturday evening at 9441 Alabama Highway, the former location of the State Line Tavern. Authorities say the incident involved a firearm.
Cherokee County, Alabama deputies later located a vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery traveling along Cedar Bluff Road, prompting a pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed on West Main Street. Investigators say the occupants then fled the scene on foot, heading south.
A search of the area led deputies to 23-year-old Jeffrey Lemar Smith of Gadsden, who was found hiding inside a dumpster off West Main Street near Watson Drive in Centre. Smith has been charged with armed robbery with a gun and has since been returned to Floyd County.
Law enforcement officials say two additional suspects remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local authorities.
