Atrium Health Floyd is offering two free community events this February in observation of American Heart Month, focused on blood pressure screenings and heart-health education.

The first event is Monday, February 2, with free blood pressure checks in the Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center cafeteria from 11 a.m. until noon. No appointment is necessary. Atrium Health Floyd notes that untreated high blood pressure can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

A second event will be held Saturday, February 7, at the Rome-Floyd County YMCA (810 E. Second Ave.) from 8 a.m. until noon. Residents can learn hands-only CPR, get heart-health tips, and also receive a free blood pressure check. Hands-only CPR uses chest compressions only and does not require rescue breaths. No appointment or preregistration is required.

Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Cardiology as a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS is recognized by the ACC as an Emergency Medical Services Partner in Care.

American Heart Month is observed each February to promote cardiovascular health and disease prevention.
