We now have more details about a Trion man who was shot and killed Friday night at a worksite in Rossville.
According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 9:05 p.m. Friday to a reported shooting at 1108 Ridgewood Street in Rossville. When deputies arrived, they found 59-year-old Jerry Hightower dead in the front yard.
Authorities said witnesses pointed deputies to the suspect, 49-year-old James Richard Nowlin, who was sitting on the front porch of a home across the street at 1107 Ridgewood Street. Deputies took Nowlin into custody without incident.
Investigators say witnesses reported that Hightower and Nowlin had argued over a bright work light shining onto Nowlin’s residence. Hightower did not live at the location where the shooting happened, but was there performing maintenance work.
Nowlin was charged with one count of murder and booked into the Walker County Jail. No bond had been set.
