Local paddlers are invited to hit the water later this month for a Social Paddle along the Chattooga River, traveling from Lyerly to Chattoogaville.
The outing is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, beginning at 9 a.m. and is being organized by Cindy L. Rivers McGraw and the Chattooga River Group.
Participants will float what organizers call “The Blue Trail,” a 7.4-mile paddle from Lyerly to Chattoogaville. Organizers describe the trip as relatively easy.
Those taking part should bring their own kayak, paddle, personal flotation device, snacks and water. No shuttle service will be provided, so participants will need to make their own transportation arrangements.
Organizers also plan to have bags available for anyone who would like to collect trash along the river during the trip, although cleanup participation is optional.
The group may get together for a meal following the paddle, depending on interest.
Anyone planning to participate is asked to contact Cindy McGraw by 8 p.m. Friday, August 21. The exact meeting location will be determined based on the number of participants.
The Social Paddle provides an opportunity to enjoy a summer morning on the Chattooga River while meeting other local paddlers and, for those who choose, helping remove litter from the waterway.
