A new community voter registration and education event is coming to Summerville next month, with organizers hoping to help residents prepare for upcoming elections.

Summerville Councilwoman Simone Adams and her sister, Ashley Adams, are organizing the event, called “Power to the Polls.”

The event will be held Saturday, September 19, from 10 AM until 2 PM at the Fairway Recreation Center, 81 Senior Drive in Summerville.

Organizers say the event is designed to help residents verify their voter registration status, learn more about the voting process and ask questions about upcoming elections.

Volunteers will be available throughout the event to assist first-time voters, answer questions and help make sure attendees leave confident about casting a ballot.

The event is open to all Chattooga County residents.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a valid photo identification if they plan to register.

Lunch will be provided while supplies last, and organizers say there will also be giveaways and prizes throughout the day.
