Contractors interested in a natural gas system project in Trion have only a couple more days to submit bids to the town.

The Town of Trion is accepting sealed bids for work involving an existing six-inch steel natural gas line along Old Highway 27, with bids due Thursday, September 17, at 11:45 AM.

The project is intended to address a shorted steel casing on an existing six-inch steel gas line operating at approximately 285 pounds per square inch.

Under the proposed project, a contractor will construct a bypass around the affected casing and install and connect approximately 200 feet of new six-inch steel gas main along and within the right-of-way of Old Highway 27.

The contractor selected for the project will be responsible for providing the necessary labor, tools, equipment, skills and incidental materials not being supplied by the Town of Trion.

Because the work involves a natural gas transmission system, contractors must meet specific qualifications. Bidders are required to hold a State of Georgia Utility Contractor License, and the successful contractor must provide documentation showing compliance with applicable federal pipeline safety regulations for workers involved in the project.

The invitation to bid also calls for a 10 percent bid bond or other acceptable surety for bids exceeding $100,000.

Sealed bids are scheduled to be opened publicly Thursday at Trion Town Hall following the 11:45 AM submission deadline.

The project is part of the Town of Trion’s continuing work to maintain the integrity and reliability of its municipal natural gas system.
