The 52nd Annual Sum Nelly Festival is still on for Saturday, October 3, but organizers are making several significant changes because of anticipated weather conditions.

This year’s festival will be moved from Dowdy Park to East Washington Street in downtown Summerville, approximately one block from the park. Organizers say the change will allow vendors to set up tents, tables and merchandise on pavement rather than grass if rain develops.

Festival hours have also been shortened. Sum Nelly will now run from 9 AM until 3 PM Saturday, instead of the originally scheduled 9 AM to 7 PM.

Vendors may set up Friday from 6:30 until 8:30 PM or Saturday from 6 until 8 AM. East Washington Street will be closed by police beginning at 8:15 AM Saturday, and vendors will not be allowed to drive onto the street after that time.

Festival organizers are encouraging local vendors to take advantage of Friday evening setup.

Adding to activity downtown Saturday, a train is scheduled to arrive at the Summerville Depot at approximately 1 PM. Organizers say about 200 passengers arrived during the previous Saturday’s train visit. The train is expected to remain in Summerville until approximately 2:30 PM.

An updated vendor map and individual vendor locations are expected to be posted by 5 PM Thursday, October 1, at SummervilleRec.org.

Organizers say the adjustments are being made to provide a safe and enjoyable festival while taking the anticipated weather into consideration.

The Sum Nelly Festival remains scheduled for Saturday, October 3, from 9 AM until 3 PM in downtown Summerville.
