A Lyerly Dam Road home was reported burglarized with about $2,000 worth of jewelry and a rifle stolen.

According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, Linda Theresa Cook told officers that she arrived at her home Thursday and found her bedroom in disarray, that her closet had been ransacked and several items missing.

Missing from the bedroom closet was a Remington rifle and about $2,000 worth of miscellaneous Jewelry. After searching through the residence she found that a bed in another bedroom was out of place and noticed that the outside screen to the window above the bed had been removed. Upon looking outside, she saw where someone had used a concrete block to climb through the window and gain entry to the home. The burglary reportedly had occurred sometime between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

According to the report, the only rooms tampered with were the bedroom in which the items were taken from and the bedroom in which the window was used to gain entry, leading the deputy to believe that the person who burglarized the home knew what they were looking for and possibly someone familiar with Cook who had been inside the home. Investigators do have a possible suspect in the incident.
