The Summerville City Council Monday in its regular monthly meeting approved a Peddler's Ordinance during its second reading. City Manager Russell Thompson explains that the ordinance is related to vendors that set up on private property for business transactions that don't have a business license. Those vendors who generally sell produce, meat, etc. would be required to apply for a permit by the city. The permit costs $50. There is no cost to those selling locally grown produce.

In other business the council called a meeting for 6 p.m. September 24 to hold a public hearing concerning the City's Americans With Disabilities Transition Plan. The council is expected to approve the plan at that meeting in order for the plan to be submitted to the state.

Also announced at the meeting were the City’s upcoming fall events. They are Sum-Nelly on October 6; Art in the Park on October 13; BBQ, Stew & Chili Cook-off October 20; and Farm Day on October 27. All of the events coincide with the schedule of the Tennessee Valley Railroad's "Summerville Steam Special." November 3 is still open.
