AM 1180 reported last week that a Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputy was cleared by the Peace Officer's Standards and Training Council, Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett said he "knew all along that she (Kandy Dodd) would be cleared.”

Technically that information is incorrect, Dodd was not cleared but the council did decide not to take action. The council acted on Sept 12 and chose to take no action in the citizen filed complaint that Dodd altered a search warrant, believing it was a case of Dodd being untrained. In the letter it states that any action taken by an employing agency or any criminal action against an officer or candidate is separate and distinct from any action of the POST council.

The letter further states that the council has the authority to refuse a certificate to an applicant, or to discipline a certified peace officer or exempt peace officer,…..and the council does not clear or exonerate an individual.

Dodd, as well as Everett are involved in a federal lawsuit where she reportedly altered a search warrant to gain entry to someone’s home. The matter is pending in federal court.
