A Summerville man, who reportedly is a convicted sex offender, was arrested on new child-related sex charges Monday. According to Chattooga County Sheriff's Department Investigator Matt Hayes, 42-year-old Michael Lamar Helton, who listed a Ramey Street address on his booking report, is accused of sodomizing a 12-year-old girl over a period of the past few months. The victim reportedly told a friend, who told her parents, who went to police. The victim then collaborated the story with investigators. After interviewing the child and collecting evidence from the home, Helton was arrested on Monday. According to Hayes, Helton is a convicted sex offender and has done prison time, therefore bond was denied by Chief Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddox. Helton was charged with aggravated sodomy, child molestation and aggravated child molestation. He has been housed out of county as most sex offenders are, according to Hayes.
