A Rome woman was arrested on drug charges in Chattooga County Sunday night. According to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department report, Deputy John Chandler was East bound on Highway 48 when he saw a truck driving West on and off the center line. Also, at about this time, he saw the driver try to turn on their bright lights and activate their turn signal. Chandler stopped the vehicle and smelled marijuana. According to the report, 34-year-old Amber Nicole Chatfield, of Rome, told the officer that she had not been smoking marijuana and there was none in the vehicle. Chatfield was detained until other officers arrived, and at that time told Chandler there is something she might have forgotten to tell him. When asked she produced a small amount of suspected marijuana. When officers looked through the vehicle they reportedly found two containers of pills. At that point Chatfield admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day. Chatfield was charged with a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. Test on the marijuana came back positive, the report indicated. She has taken to the Chattooga County Jail.
