It has been determined that a write-in candidate for Walker County commissioner is good to go. After receiving a telephone tip that write-in candidate Ales Campbell has unpaid tax bills, the county's Elections' Superintendent called the county attorney for advice, the county attorney rescused himself in a press conference. That lead to an appearance by the candidate before a meeting of the Walker County Board of Elections Friday morning. Ales Campbell told the board that the action had damaged her campaign and she asked for an apology from Election's Superintendent Barbara Berry, specifically for calling the county attorney before contacting the candidate. Campbell also presented to the board written evidence that all tax bills had been paid and will soon be removed from records in the Clerk of Courts office. Campbell was told by a member of the election's board that the superintendent was correct in her actions and should not have to apologize. Elections Chair Beth Edwards said from the board's position, this event was a "non-issue." and that Campbell is a qualified write-in candidate in good standing.
