A meeting was held at 2 PM this afternoon at the Lyerly Post Office to inform citizens about the future of their post office.  

A representative from the U.S. Postal Service said at the start of the meeting that the Lyerly Post Office would remain open.  What will happen is there will no longer be a post master at the post office.  The post office will be staffed with a window clerk.  The office in Lyerly will only be open four hours per day.  The hours have yet to be determined, but most likely the hours will be Monday – Friday from 12:30 PM until 4:30 PM.  

The meeting at the Menlo Post Office will be held at 4 PM this afternoon.  According to the U.S. Postal Service, the Menlo Post Office will also remain open and will operate 6 hours a day due to large volume of mail and higher retail sales than there is in Lyerly. 

Saturday services will remain the same at both locations.  Residents are being urged to keep their business local if they want their Post Offices to succeed.  Buying stamps, renting post office boxes and even internet mailing all determines how much revenue comes through a local post office.

The plan in place will be reviewed yearly and should remain unchanged until 2014.
