Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens issued the following statement

concerning the unauthorized access of Nationwide Insurance‘s website:

Nationwide Insurance Company notified my office that a portion of their computer network

was criminally attacked by individuals who gained unauthorized access to personal and

private information of approximately 28,467 Georgia members and/or potential

policyholders.  To minimize the possible negative impact on these consumers, a plan of

correction has been implemented. Nationwide will:

 Provide the Department of Insurance with evidence of written notice to the

members and applicants regarding the improper disclosure of their private

information.

 Create a dedicated toll-free number to answer questions from members and

applicants.  The Nationwide number is 800-760-1125.

 Offer affected members and applicants free credit monitoring and identity theft

protection services from Equifax for at least one year.

We treat any improper access of an applicant’s personal information as a serious matter.

Consumers who have questions or concerns may also contact my office at 404-656-2070, or

toll-free at 800-656-2298.

Nationwide mailed notices to all affected individuals last Friday.
