R.W. "Dub" Williams

January 22, 1917 – November 27, 2012

 

The year 2012 turned out to be his last, but it was a great year!

For years, I thought about the last surviving member of the 1933

Trion Bulldogs, but never knew where I could find him. It just so

happened several friends on facebook helped me locate his family.

Knowing his family, I arranged an interview with him this past summer.

After the 2012 Bulldogs won their 500th win at LaFayette, Coach

Brown and the Bulldogs invited Mr. Dub to be the guest speaker

at Sam R. McCain Stadium. Coach Justin Brown and the team awarded

Mr. Dub with the historic 500th win game ball. He stated, "I will

probably sleep with the ball, but I promise I will not fumble it."

On October 26, 2012, Mr. Dub was recognized again with the 500th

win game ball at the Trion-Gordon Lee football game. He was a true

Bulldog, and he will be dearly missed.

 

It was a great honor to get to know him this year. I am happy

that he was honored throughout the year in 2012.
