The Town of Trion has applied for a Recreational Trails Grant for a walking/biking trail that will meander its way through the Town. The trail would begin at the river and loop around up Highway 27 around the ball field and then continue onto the track field. It would be implemented in three phases, with the first phase beginning behind the old Park Avenue Apartments, coming under the railroad bridge, past the cemetery and then up to Highway 27. The trail would be asphalted and similar to the trail in Rome. The town would have to get permission from the railroad to implement that particular route. 

Georgia’s Recreational Trails Program provides funding for trail construction, trail maintenance and trail education. A part of the state's Division of Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites, the Recreational Trails Program awards grants to city governments, county governments, federal agencies, authorized commissions, as well as state agencies.

The Town of Lyerly, in conjunction with Chattooga County has also applied for a similar grant that would provide two canoeing/kayaking access points along the Chattooga River.
