Chattooga County's new Sheriff Mark Schrader is making some changes to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office located next to the jail.  Schrader told AM 1180 that he wants a more professional, business – type feel to the building which was originally built as a residence.

Schrader is renovating the building, but says that the cost for the renovations is very low.  The sheriff is using county inmates to do the labor on the building and said that Commissioner Jason Winters has helped to find some of the materials such as doors for the building.  Schrader said that the renovated sheriff's department will feature a new entry way on Washington Street and a more spacious reception area.

Another change will be that all of the sheriff's department investigators will be in one office.  Schrader said that he hopes this will allow for better communication between the investigators.  Also the investigators office will be located at the front of the building so they will be accessible to residents when they walk in the new entrance.

The one change at the sheriff's department that Sheriff Schrader was not certain about was exactly where his office would be located in the renovated building.
