Chattooga County EMA Director Eddie Henderson said that the National Weather Service is predicting that the Chattooga River will crest tonight around midnight at 17 feet.  That's about two and one-half feet above Flood State.  

The areas along the Chattooga River will experience minor to moderate flooding with water getting into wooded areas and fields and possible into some roadways.  The river is likely to stay at this level for three to four hours before beginning to recede.  Chattooga County is expecting another inch of rain this afternoon.  Henderson said that areas to the north of Chattooga County have had up to five inches of rain which contributes to the flooding of the Chattooga River.  Henderson said that at this time he does not expect any  major problems from flooding along the Chattooga River in Trion.

Jason Beck with The Weather Channel posted earlier this morning: "A flood warning remains in effect for the Chattooga River. As of 8am today level was 15.4 feet & rising. National Weather Service expects it to rise to 17ft. around midnight. At that level, parts of Lyerly Dam Rd. should be under water & parts of the parking lot at Mt. Vernon Mills will take on water. Be careful!"
