Two Chattooga County residents have recently reported that were the possible victims of identity theft while they were incarcerated.

 A Menlo man reported to Chattooga County Sheriff's deputies reported on January 25 that he recently discovered that someone used his identity to file income taxes for 2010. He said he had no idea who could have gotten his personal information. He said the taxes were filed while he was incarcerated and he only found out about it though a letter from the IRS.

In another instance, a Summerville woman reported on January 24, that she  had received a phone call from a collection agency trying to collect almost $1000 they said she owed Dish Network. She was told that in July 2012, someone had taken out a Dish Network subscription using her name and personal information in Claxton, Ga. The woman said the only time she has been in Claxton, Ga., was for five days when she spent time in a detention center.
