Wrestling season has come to an end for the 2012-2013 season and the Trion Mat Dogs have made significant strides in the right direction this year. 

 bulldogs placed five wrestlers in the individual state tournament this previous weekend in Macon who all showed great potential in placing towards the tops of their brackets.

Freshmen Ben Morgan (113) and Andrew McGuire (132) both place in the top eight wrestlers in their weight classes. Henrri Ambroccio, another freshman, placed sixth in his weight class losing to Kirkpatrick of St. Francis by a tight score of 9-8. Ambroccio went 26-13 this season and will be looked at as one of the top wrestlers in the 113 weight in the upcoming season.  

Junior Dustin Thrasher (138) also placed in the tourney this weekend claiming fifth place. Thrasher won his match against Westmoreland of Commerce High School by pin fall to claim fifth place. Thrasher, who will also be looked at as a top wrestler in the state, finished the season with an overall record of 37-12. 

Chandler Lathem (160) brought home third place for the Mat Dogs to cap an astonishing season. Lathem, a junior, lost in the semi finals after a controversial call 5-3. Lathem then wrestled for third place and beat Stephen Williams of Holy Innocents by a decision of 7-2. Lathem ended his season with an amazing 43 wins and just 3 losses. 

Trion’s team score landed them in 13th place out of 42 teams competing. Coach Eric Brock stated,” I thought all our guys wrestled very hard. We will have all of these guys back for next year so I cannot wait to see what they do next year.” 

The Mat Dogs return next year with a seasoned and experienced team. Junior’s Lathem and Thrasher will be expected to lead the Bulldogs next year on the mat and we wish them as well as the entire wrestling program the best of luck. Go Dogs!
