A Georgia man is pounding the pavement with purpose. His coast-to-coast journey will take him from Savannah to Monterey, California. His main goal is to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's.

Jack Fussell  is 62. He said a lot of people have given a lot to him to get him to that age and at some point you have to start giving back.

3,591 miles from coastal Georgia to the Pacific Ocean on foot by a man who was once told he may never take another step. Fussell reportedly had bleeding ulcers so bad he was given two hours to live. That was 12 years ago. He quickly changed his lifestyle, dropped 100 pounds and got active. He set five long distance running goals with he finished two years ago. 

Nine months before his near death experience, his father died with Alzheimer's marking his seventh relative who lost a battle with the deadly disease. It suddenly hit him. This was his calling, a journey across America with only his stroller ironically named Wilson from the movie Cast Away.

The goal $250,000 all for the Alzheimer's Association.

He said he doesn't know what, or who is ahead. He said he hopes that the money he raises will help those who battle alzhiemers to one day remember. He said he doesn't know anyone in the state's he's going through and doesn't know what's going to happen, But he'll get there and he has faith it's going to be happy. 

He says he hopes his dad is watching and is proud.
