Lyerly will have its Severe Weather Awareness Day on April 13. The council discussed the day's festivities in its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday.

Times for the even are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fire department will be selling barbecue sandwiches during that time. Prior to the event, the fire department is taking orders for Boston butt roasts. Roasts are $30 and must be pre-ordered by April 6 and picked up by 2 p.m. on Severe Weather Awareness Day.

In other business, the council discussed a new sidewalk to the park. The town received a cost estimate from engineers at $56,000  and received $5,808 from a state Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG).

The sidewalk will be six-feet wide with a four-foot median between the sidewalk and Highway 114. Bartow Paving, the company that won the bid to repair already existing sidewalk in the town, will look at the are where the proposed sidewalk is to be placed, and provide a cost estimate of doing the job.

The proposed sidewalk will be about 1,065 feet long and go from Hammond Street to the park entrance.
