It’s a day marked by leprechauns, shamrocks and the color green, but nothing quite says St. Patrick’s Day like a pint of Guinness. 
 
In fact, alcohol consumption has become so commonplace in the holiday weekend, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports over 700 people were killed in crashes that involved a drunk driver during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday from 2006 to 2010.
 
Since alcohol isn't  sold in Chattooga County on Sundays, most drinking here will be done at home, or at someone else home. However many will travel to surrounding areas today that do allow Sunday alcohol sales.
 
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader reminds you that if you do drink today, don't drive. He says make sure you take along a designated driver.
