The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of North Georgia including Chattooga County.  According to the National Weather Service we should be prepared to see snow and sleet accumulations of two to four inches in the valley areas and anywhere from four to five inches in the higher elevations.  Ice accumulations are possible as well.

For Sunday we can expect dangerously cold wind chills this morning, a wind chill advisory is in effect until 10 AM this morning.  Tonight there is a chance for light snow or sleet.  Then on Monday we could see freezing rain, sleet and snow.   Snow and ice accumulations could result in downed trees and power lines and black ice will likely be a factor on area roadways.

All of this is expected to begin tonight after midnight and continue through Wednesday morning.  Forecasters are still fine-tuning the exact amounts of ice and snow we could see and are warning residents in North Georgia to monitor the forecast closely and to prepare now for winter weather.

The National Weather Service says to be sure to have non-perishable food items on hand and make other preparations as necessary for this winter storm.

It is highly probable that a Winter Storm Warning will be issued by this evening for North Georgia.  The National Weather Service says not to wait for the warning to begin preparing for this storm.

Another winter storm is expected to move into the area this Thursday night and impact travel this coming weekend.
