Chattooga County is preparing for a winter storm later today.  County Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 on Tuesday evening that the county has plenty of salt on hand at Chattooga County Public Works.  Winters said that late in the winter season last year, Chattooga County Public Works stockpiled about 300 tons of salt.   The commissioner told AM 1180 in October “We should be in really good shape and should have enough salt for Summerville and Trion if they get in a pinch and need salt as well."

Chattooga County EMA Henderson said yesterday that he knows many people are getting weary of the alerts about snowfall and then not seeing much in the way of winter weather.  Henderson believes that this time things will be different.  He said, “You get a warning and then prepare and then nothing happens.  I just want to warn everyone not to be complacent.  The storm being predicted is a really bad storm.  Predictions are for a heavy wet snow. “

Henderson explained that heavy wet snows cause problems on roads and power lines and the effects could last for several days.  He said, “Please don’t be complacent.”  Chattooga County EMA is urging residents to be on the safe side and be prepared for three days of winter weather.
