Starting December 1st, Chattooga County residents aged 65 and above or who are homebound – can apply for assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Program by paying a visit to the North Georgia Community Action, Inc. office at 152 Senior Drive in Summerville.

This year, the requirements have changed a bit.

Application requirements are as follows:

 * Bring a current picture ID

 * Social Security Verification for every member of the household

 * Proof of Age for every member of the household

 * Proof of any interest earned for 2015 for every member of the household

 * A current heating bill (less than two months old)

NEW REQUIREMENT: an electric bill, no matter how you heat your home is now mandatory as information must be collected on every application regarding the electricity account.  An application cannot be processed without the electric bill being attached.
