Sometimes a name is MORE than just a name – and that’s certainly the case with Chattooga County’s “Hope Rebirth”.

We recently spoke with Ed Flener regarding the organization and he informed us that Hope Rebirth Homeless Shelter has since shortened their name, due to the fact that they’re more than a homeless shelter; they provide shelter for single women, single men and families but the real goal is to help the clients get back on their feet, successfully transitioning back into society.

Flener stressed that it doesn’t cost those receiving help a penny adding that Hope Rebirth is supported by local congregations, individuals and corporations.  He also stressed that what the amount is, doesn’t matter, from a dollar to a thousand dollars, every donation is greatly appreciated – with the attitude being “small things make big things.”

Hope Rebirth has no government funding, and Flener says he’s proud of that; he also wishes to stress that Hope Rebirth is a Christian faith-based organization.

Hope Rebirth is extremely active in regard to doing what they can to support themselves – they have a Yard Sale room, with 100% of the profits coming back into the shelter just this past March they were able to purchase the facility they’re currently in through the help of individuals and organizations around the area.

A number of exciting new things are now taking on a life of their own at Hope Rebirth; they are in the process of developing a “transitional home” for single men – so when they leave the main campus they will have a place to go where they’ll receive assistance with activities such as budgeting and saving money. 

This helps provide a support system as they return to work and normal day-to-day living.

One thing that Hope Rebirth desperately needs is hands – volunteers of all types, including mentors.  If you can volunteer anytime, whether it be an hour or a few hours, stop by Hope Rebirth – they’re located off Highland Avenue near the old Summerville Elementary School.
