It’s estimated that cleanup operations at the Barwick Mill plant in Lafayette could take up to nine months.

The structure burned last month and a new report by the Environmental Protection Agency provides a summary of the environmental effects of the fire, and although the EPA is saying that air quality has returned to normal, some residents have their doubts.

Firefighters fought the fire for five days running, while officials warned those living nearby

to stay indoors.  Run off from firefighting operations turned portions of the Chattooga River a blue or purple-tinged colors for several days – a 181 page report issued by the EPA stated that the air quality levels returned to normal after three days.

At this point, asbestos is a big concern, with officials saying if that's discovered in the debris it'll complicate matters considerably.

The earliest completion day being mentioned in sometime in May of next year (2016).
