According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Wednesday (the 9th of December), the GBI’s Commercial Gambling Unit, along with the Rome/Floyd Metro Task Force, the Rome Police Department, Floyd County Police Department, and the Floyd County

Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Georgia Lottery Corporation & Georgia Department of Revenue, executed seven search warrants within the city limits of Rome for violations of the states commercial gambling laws.

Reportedly, while searching those locations, the agents collected evidence related to crimes of commercial gambling, and seized monetary assets allegedly gained from the illegal use of gaming machines.

All of the locations are currently licensed to operate Coin Operated Amusement Machines.
In the course of the investigation agents discovered customers were receiving cash payouts for winning credits.

In Georgia, credits may only be redeemed for lottery tickets and/or store merchandise.

Search warrants were executed at the following business locations:

Garden Lakes Food and Beverage, 2022 Redmond Circle
Maple Quick Stop, 1912 Maple Avenue
Sammy’s Salvage, 1301 Shorter Avenue
Calhoun Quick Stop, 1120 Calhoun Avenue
Lucky Lotto #3, 1300 Shorter Avenue
One Stop Shop for All, 1433 North Broad Street
One Stop Shop, 2017 Maple Avenue

Two individuals have been taken into custody so far, according to Floyd County Jail records.
35 year old Madhur Gupta, who owns the Calhoun Quick Stop and the Maple Quick Stop has been charged with two counts of commercial gambling; 29-year old Mehrunnisha Kalavant, who owns the One Stop Shop located on Maple Avenue, has been charged with one count of commercial gambling.

Authorities say additional arrests are expected.
