Chattooga County officials are reportedly considering charging property owners for picking up the often large amount of items that are being cleaned out of rental houses in the county

Georgia law allows a landlord, who has filed a dispossession against a tenant, to remove all items from the rental unit and place them beside the road. 

Once all of the items have been placed by the roadside, the landlord can then dispose of the items belonging to the former tenant. 

The problem is, the county has been called several times to clean up these items.  Chattooga

County Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux stated that the law says all of the renters items must be placed by the roadside before the landlord can dispose of the items. 

The Summerville News recently reported, that Chattooga County Public Works Director Joe Reed, says that the county is considering charging for coming out to clean up those items.
