Polk County Drug Task Force officers arrested 26 year-old Mary Elizabeth Melton, of Cedartown, recently after she was accused of stealing numerous pain medications from residents at Winthrop at Polk Senior Care. Officials said that Melton stole the resident’s medication over a period of time while working at the center.

She is charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, theft by taking, drugs not in original container, and willfully failing to report abuse of disabled adult/elderly person.

Reports added that she is no longer employed by Winthrop.
