Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the fire that destroyed the Golden Corral restaurant Wednesday in Fort Oglethorpe. But it appears to have originated in the top half of the building.

Emergency crews battled the blaze on Battlefield Parkway early Wednesday morning, Jan. 6, after a bystander reported the fire.

Flames could be seen along Battlefield Parkway around 12:30 a.m., about three hours after the store closed.

Officials say no one was seriously injured. A Fort Oglethorpe firefighter did suffer a minor injury and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

According to Laura Wright, public information officer for the Georgia Department of Insurance, investigators followed up on-site throughout the day Wednesday.
