Additional information has been released by Chattooga County Sheriff Marc Schrader about the Monday night (January 18th) robbery at the Wildlife Lake Food Mart on the outskirts of Summerville.

According to that report, Deputy Nick Robinson was dispatched to the location around 9:45 that night, in response to a report of an armed robbery in progress; a truck that had just left the store was pulled over and it was quickly determined that no one in the vehicle had been involved in the incident.

The deputy then spoke with the clerk who stated two males, one white and one black – both wearing masks, had entered the store, and walked toward the counter – with the black male then coming around and hitting the store employee with the stick that was located behind the counter, before he gathered up between $800 and $900; that employee had been in the process of preparing the bank bags when the incident occurred.

At that point the white male asked the other man for the money, and then entered the office area and unplugged the computer, then attempted to destroy it.  He then went into another room and smashed the screens on two slot-style game machines.

The store employee said a third man, a white male – NOT wearing a mask, came to the door and instructed the others to "hurry up,".

As the first two men, both armed with handguns, started to leave, the black male reportedly pointed his gun at the victim, and told him not to watch them leave or he would shoot him.

As soon as they went out the front door, the employee dialed 9-1-1 for assistance.

A thorough search of the area was conducted with assistance from the Hays Prison K-9 Unit – no direction of travel or vehicle description was available at the time.

The case has been turned over to investigators and is on-going.
