Officials at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office reported that a female inmate died Thursday of natural causes.

Ashley Louise McEarchern, age 34, was found dead in her cell by jail staff at 7:40am during breakfast. No foul play is suspected.

Public Information Officer, Deputy Carrie Edge stated: “As prescribed practice in matters of in-custody deaths, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was contacted immediately by Sheriff Burkhalter at 8:30am. Subsequently, next of kin was notified at 9:00am.”

McEarchen had been in the custody of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office since January 25th on misdemeanor probation violation.
