A Kingston man was pulled from his car just before it burst into flames after a collision on the East Rome Bypass on Wednesday night.

According to Rome police Lt. Josh Kerce:

Fhadi Rashed-Shukri of Rome was driving a Nis­san Altima turning left onto Ga. 53 from the bypass. Timothy Hooker of Rome was driving a Honda Accord traveling west on the bypass.

Hooker ran the red light and hit the Altima head-on, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Floyd County police officer Amy Nails was the first to respond to the scene. Kerce said Nails noticed the Honda was smoking and pulled Hooker out of his car just before it burst into flames.

Hooker complained of neck and back pain and was taken to Floyd Medical Center where he was treated and released later that night. He was cited for failure to yield.
