Rome police have filed charges against a man who is thought to have connections with several armed robberies throughout Northwest Georgia.

James Tyrone Carmichael, 42, of Rome, was arrested in Chattooga County on Sunday. He was charged Friday with armed robbery of the Garden Lakes Food Mart on Huffaker Road   on Jan. 25.

Carmichael walked into the store wearing a hooded shirt and a mask and pointed a pistol at the clerk and demanded the clerk give him money. The clerk gave him about $500 and he left the scene on foot.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of probation violation.

In Chattooga County, Carmichael was charged on two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of methamphetamine.

He was being held in Floyd County Jail without bond Friday.
