Talk about a long "test drive".
Last Friday, an employee with Riverside Chevrolet in Rome allegedly left the dealership in a 2016 Tahoe in order to get fuel – but never returned.
The on-board global positioning unit was activated – indicating that the stolen Tahoe was in Cherokee County, Alabama; a theft report was then filed with the Rome PD and information was issued to Cherokee County authorities regarding the situation.
Lt. Bo Jolly with the sheriff's office spotted the vehicle on County Road 45 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled – however, he was soon pulled over by deputies on County Road 29 and taken into custody.
Jimmy Wayne Blair, age 38 of Silver Creek Georgia was arrested on the charges of Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree and Attempting to Elude Police.
He remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting setting of bond.
He is facing additional charges in Rome.
